神秘之鏡與魔法之鏡：

以文本證據建立東西比較文學之基礎

東西方在語言、文化、歷史和社會生活各方面都有巨大差異，如何奠定比較之基礎在東西比較研究中便是一個極具挑戰性的問題。就中西比較文學而言，重要的不在空談理論，而在展示具體例子作為文本證據，揭示不同文學傳統之間的契合，並以此來建立起比較的合理性。缺乏文本證據，比較就會顯得空洞而牽強，一味在抽象的概念之間打轉，用一些晦澀的概念術語來故弄玄虛，更只會令人懷疑比較文學的價值，甚至對之冷眼相看。此演講將通過討論鏡子這樣一個具體意象的可比性，來說明對於東西比較研究而言，文本證據具有方法學上的重要意義。

Mirror of Enigma and Mirror of Magic:

Textual Evidence for Setting the Ground of East-West Comparative Literature

Given the huge linguistic, cultural, historical and social differences between the East and the West, what constitutes the ground for comparison poses a serious challenge to our comparative work. For Chinese-Western comparative studies, it is very important not just to make theoretical claims, but to establish the validity of comparison through a display of concrete examples as textual evidence to reveal the affinities of different literary traditions. Without textual evidence, comparisons may sound empty and unconvincing, and jumping from abstract concepts to jargon-laden obscurantism only reduce the value of comparative literature and damage its respectability. Through discussion of the comparability of a concrete image—that of the mirror—this talk will show the importance of textual evidence as methodologically meaningful for East-West comparative studies.
